Wayne J. Alofs, age 89, passed away on August 3, 2025. He was the son of parents Warner and Johanna Alofs.
Wayne has lived in the Holland area his whole life with the exception of two years in the United States Army. He was employed at Buss Machine from 1959 to 1965 and then at Prince Machine until retirement in 1988. He received several service awards from the die cast industry and taught many classes to those learning the trade.
One of Wayne’s retirement hobbies was restoring and using antique tractors, being especially fond of his 1937A John Deere tractor. He enjoyed the annual tractor crossing of the Mackinac Bridge during September in which he participated in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Wayne and Virginia enjoyed traveling throughout their retirement years and also spent time in Florida during the winter months. When he was in Florida, Wayne joined a group of harmonica players and enjoyed playing in their jam sessions.
Wayne was a member of Graafshap, Hamilton, Maranatha and currently Niekerk Christian Reformed Churches. He served many times as elder and deacon.
Wayne’s Christian commitment was always evident to others and he enjoyed Bible studies and gospel programs. He loved the Lord, his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by Virginia (Nee Hulst), his wife of 66 years and his son Kevin and Karen Alofs. His daughter Jayne Elise Alofs preceded him in death in 2020. Wayne’s grandchildren are Ashley Alofs, Sarah and Jeremy Decker and Alexander Alofs. His great grandchildren are Annie, Graham and Jane Decker. Sister-in-law, Shirley Alofs and many nieces and nephews survive him. The brothers and sister who preceded him in death are Rotha and Ted Essenburg, Jason Alofs and Lloyd and Jan Alofs.
Memorial Service will be Friday, August 8 at 1:00 pm at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland, Michigan. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Officiating will be Rev. John Nyitray and Rev. Tom Pettinga. Internment will be in Graafschap Cemetery.
