ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 4, 2025) – A new step in the legal career of Christopher Burnett begins on Monday.
It’s the first day on the 57th District Court bench for the lifelong Allegan County resident, as he was appointed as a judge two weeks ago by Governor Whitmer to succeed William Baillargeon, who had announced his intention to retire a few months into a new judicial term. Burnett had been a co-partner with the Allegan-based Burnett and Kastran law firm for the past 20 years, during which time he was a president, vice president and treasurer of the Allegan County Bar Association. His legal degrees come from Michigan State University.
Burnett’s appointment is for 17 months, with a vote slated for November of 2026 to determine who will be the permanent replacement for Baillargeon, who had served on the bench since 2009.
