HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 1, 2025) – It may have been a little too warm at The Warm Friend on Wednesday evening.
No injuries were reported when Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Services crews responded to a blaze in one of the residential units of the downtown structure. Thanks in part to the building’s internal sprinkler system, the flames were doused promptly, and all affected residents and staff were able to clear the area following effective activation of alarms. No injuries were reported, and although some units will need to be repaired, officials of the senior living community say that most residents will continue to reside with minimal disruption.
While a conclusive cause of the fire remains to be determined, as well as a dollar estimate of damage done by the flames and water, Holland Fire Marshal Bret Groendyke initially believed that a short in a personal electrical device triggered the blaze, and not anything related to the infrastructure of the 100-year-old building.
