Mary’s early years began in Grand Haven, where she was one of 7 siblings. She graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1966 and attended college at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. A true wolverine at heart, Mary was a season ticket holder for U of M football for many years.
As a lifelong learner and champion for education, Mary was a devoted educator for over 30 years. Teaching at Jefferson Elementary School and East Middle School in Holland, she impacted many young lives.
Mary was known for her vibrant spirit; whether traveling across the world and exploring new places or simply spending time with family, Mary was a joy to be around. She was active in the community, including participating in activities with the Red Hat Society, Dutch dancing, and going to Evergreen Commons.
Mary’s faith was a guiding force in her life. As a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church for over 50 years, Mary was involved in the choir, liturgy, and was a eucharistic minister. Mary will be lovingly remembered for her unwavering faith, dedication to family, and zest for life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Geroge and Margaret Yedinak.
Mary is survived by siblings Jane Lange, George (Erolynne) Yedinak, Dolores Yedinak, Florence Veltum, Ann (Larry) Wagenmaker, and Teresa Yedinak. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her beloved furry companions Delilah and Bentley.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church – 171 W 13th St, Holland, MI 49423. A visitation will take place at 10 AM followed by a funeral memorial mass at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Holland.
