HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 8, 2025) – A crash near Hudsonville before dawn on Monday led to one person being hospitalized.
First responders were dispatched around 4:45 AM to westbound I-196 just west of the 32nd Avenue exit. That was where a vehicle apparently lost control when hit by another vehicle, went off of the roadway, and into a ditch. The dry conditions led to the grass underneath the vehicle to catch fire, and the flames spread to the vehicle itself.
The driver of the damaged vehicle had fled the scene prior to the arrival of rescue crews, while three others were able to get out of the flaming vehicle. One of the three sustained non-life threatening burns to his arms and legs, and was taken to Corewell-Zeeland Hospital for treatment. The three passenger who were at the scene ranged in age from 17 to 19, and all were from Benton Harbor.
The driver is apparently still at large, and there was no initial description of the other vehicle involved in the incident, which remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
