LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 2, 2025) – A Lakeshore community is planning to tackle the issue of short term rentals on Wednesday.
Laketown Township’s board of trustees and planning commission, which normally holds separate sessions on the first Wednesday of the month, are expected to meet together at 5 PM in what township officials say is an effort to gather input on the current moratorium on STR. Not only will the two panels hear from attendees on the pros and cons of this matter, but they will also review emails and snail mails collected over the past month since this joint meeting was announced.
The township had put a six-month hold on free-standing STR, through mid-November, in response to claims of noise, trespassing on neighboring properties, and the buying up of housing stock by out-of-town owners looking to profit from running a STR. The joint meeting will be at the Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
Laketown Township is one of a number of Lakeshore communities that have tried to deal with the issue of Short Term Rentals over the years, with some banning them outright, while others have put restrictions as to location and ownership.
