OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 30, 2025) – Although the Independence Day holiday doesn’t officially begin until this Friday, roads along the Lakeshore and across the state were filled with vacation traffic this past weekend.
Triple-A is projecting a record two-point-six-million Michiganders will travel at least 50 miles from home for the Independence Day holiday, up nearly three-percent from last year. The travel period is defined by the auto club as from Saturday, June 28 through Sunday, July 6, and Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer is well aware of those getting an early start on the festivities.
There will be extra police patrols throughout the holiday period, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as part of its “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” campaign.
