ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 27, 2025) – It was an eventful 2024 for the Allegan County Clerk and Register of Deeds office.
That’s according to an annual report that was disclosed publicly for the first time during Thursday night’s Dorr Township Board meeting. Some highlights include an increase in vital records transactions by 474 from 2023; while more than 2,500 new cases were filed in the 48th Circuit Court, personal protection orders for adult, domestic and juvenile situations all fell for the first time in five years; and recorded land transfers and mortgages rose slightly for the first time since 2021.
Of course, handling four elections in 2024 put a strain on clerks’ offices at all levels in Michigan, and Allegan County was no different. Bob Genetski admitted some surprise over the response with early and absentee voting in the first major election that incorporated changes from the Proposal 2 passage of 2022.
