Born on December 27, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, James lived a life full of love, grit, and simple joys. He spent many years working for the City of Wyoming-sweeping roads, plowing snow, and doing the kind of honest outdoor work he loved and took immense pride in.
James was the definition of steady and strong. He found peace in nature-fishing by the water, camping under the stars, cutting wood, and staying busy with his hands. He had a special love for trains, trucks, and car derby races, anything that roared or rumbled brought a spark to his eyes.
Above all else, James was a family man. He shared a life of love and partnership with his wife, Diane Lynn Gebben, who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Gebben and Catherine Josephine Gebben, his brother David Thomas Gebben, his daughter Denise Strabbing, and his great-granddaughter Akasha Gladney.
James is survived by his loving wife, Diane Lynn Gebben; his children: Todd (Rebecca) Scott, Sophia Scott, and Marvin (Katrina) Scott; and his sister, Josephine Thomas Stuyvesant. He was a proud grandfather to: Bradley (Erin), Chad (Jessica), Tadd (Anna) Strabbing, Tina Trolard, Zach Scott, Sylvia (Xavier) Smith Kahisha (Kyle) Bosch, Sarah Cintron (Juan Trevino), Angelica, Benjamin (Magda Mireles), Alexis Quinones, Destiny Scott, and Breanna Scott. He leaves behind a growing legacy of 29 great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of his heart and strength.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 3:00 PM at Christian Fellowship Assembly.
The family asks for continued prayers and support during this difficult time.
James Edward Gebben will be remembered for his love of family, his tireless work ethic, his appreciation for the outdoors and machines, and his quiet, unwavering presence. He was the kind of man whose actions spoke louder than words, whose love ran deep, and whose legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
