DOUGLAS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 16, 2025) – An historic landmark in Douglas has a new life.
On Saturday, officials of the Saugatuck-based Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residence held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the purchase of the former Douglas Library site off of Center Street. The new “Ox-Bow House” will allow the 115-year-old independent summer art school to hold seasonal workshops, maintain a retail space for art supplies and artist-made wares, serve as a cultural anchor for contemporary art in the Saugatuck-Douglas community, and develop Ox-Bow’s archives for public access.
A purchase price from the City of Douglas, which had owned the building, was not disclosed. Renovations will be led by the school’s resident architect, Charlie Vinz.
