HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 11, 2025) – As June is Youth Employment Month in Michigan, as proclaimed by Governor Whitmer, a local program to accomplish just that gets underway on Wednesday.
The 13th annual Career Connections from ESCAPE Ministries will allow youngsters aged 14 through 17 to work in teams, with adult supervision and mentoring, over a 10-week period, on various jobs with local employers, non-profits, and individuals that have tasks to do. The teens will be evaluated daily, and for many of them, they will be taking home their first paychecks, according to AJ Westendorp, the Connections Director for ESCAPE.
Firms that can provide opportunities for teens to work through ESCAPE’s Career Connections program are asked to contact the ministry (616-396-4481), with an online link here.
Officials with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity say that an estimated 260,500 youth aged 16-19 are expected to enter the state’s workforce this summer.
