ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 5, 2025) – What may be a contentious issue in Zeeland will be spotlighted on Thursday evening.
The Zeeland Planning Commission, during its monthly meeting, will receive a conceptual presentation from officials of Reckitt Zeeland on a proposed expansion of its current facility off of East Main Avenue near Fairview. The Mead Johnson firm is looking to build up the plant that has been making baby formula at the site for more than a century, but could also be considering other locations to accommodate its needs.
Mayor Kevin Klynstra and other city leaders have been hearing from neighbors concerned about noise, traffic, and lower property values that could result from an expansion of the plant.
No decisions on the Reckitt presentation will be made in this 5:45 PM meeting, but a special session is slated for next Thursday, June 12th, where a 6 PM public hearing on a rezoning request will be made. Both meetings will be at the Howard Miller Community Center (14 S. Church St.).
