SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 4, 2025) – Another Lakeshore community decides on its financial future on Wednesday evening.
The Saugatuck City Council has a special 6 PM session set for the second-floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.) to go over a nearly $7.2 million proposed budget for fiscal 2026. It includes pulling around $1.6 million from almost $7 million in reserves to balance the books without raising the current operating levy of 10.1 mills.
City Manager Ryan Cummins’ main budget message is to maintain, repair and replace, as a community survey indicated infrastructure was the top priority of residents and other stakeholders. He also is stressing projects in his financial blueprint, including work on the Blue Star Trail and Mt. Baldhead Park, along with dealing with invasive species, and a remodeling of the interior of City Hall.
A public hearing is slated ahead of the governing panel’s vote. Saugatuck’s budget session comes after both Zeeland and Holland’s leaders approved annual spending plans last month.
