LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 4, 2025) – More help for Allegan County following last month’s storms is coming from Lansing.
On Tuesday, Governor Whitmer declared a state of emergency for the county, as well as for Baraga County and the city of Lansing, due to damage caused when a line of strong weather on May 15th triggered 11 tornadoes, along with damaging winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding. The National Weather Service confirmed that two EF-1 level twisters landed in Allegan County, in the areas of Dorr and Martin. A total of 11 communities were affected, and the county’s Emergency Operations Center reported around $2.2 million dollars of damage, of which $440,000 came from local government property, which can be reimbursed from state funds through the Governor’s declaration.
The Governor’s declaration means that the matter will now go before the White House for a possible Presidential emergency declaration, which would trigger the availability of Federal Emergency Management Agency funds for individuals and businesses.
