ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 22, 2025) – Some preliminary numbers are out after last Thursday’s storms that hit the Lakeshore.
The Allegan County Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday disclosed a summary and clarification of property damage assessments stemming from the weather conditions over a two-hour span. It is believed that around $2.2 million of damage was done across the county, with the heaviest damage done in the Dorr and Martin areas.
Approximately $440,000 in local government property damage was noted, which can possibly be reimbursed by Lansing if Governor Whitmer issues a state of emergency declaration for the region. Only a Presidential declaration can provide resources for individuals and businesses impacted by the storm.
The Allegan County Board last Friday issued a state of emergency declaration for the county, the first step in getting similar measures from the Governor and President.
