HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 20, 2025) – While seat belt use is spotlighted in the first nationwide traffic enforcement initiative of the summer vacation season, those in blue, brown or black will be looking for other transgressions among those hitting the roads for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The “Click it or Ticket” campaign began on Monday, running through June 1st, with funding for extra patrols of state troopers, county sheriff’s deputies, and local police officers coming from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. However, as Sergeant Jon Boeve, head of the Holland Department of Public Safety Police Operations’ Traffic Unit, says, impaired driving won’t be overlooked.
With the legalization of the recreational use of marijuana and cannabis products, the task of proving impairment has been made tougher.
Boeve adds that, with the end of classes, there will be an increase of younger, inexperienced drivers on roadways that will need to be watched for.
