FENNVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 15, 2025) – The City of Fennville wants to be more than just a place people drive through on M-89.
To that end, a crowdfunding effort is underway to garner $50,000 by June 14th. The money would go toward developing a City Square Park, off of Main and Maple streets.
City officials envision transforming what is now a vacant lot into an amphitheater, a splash pad, an outdoor fireplace, a seating area, and a public greenspace that would accommodate a variety of events. Money raised through this effort will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Already committing funds to the project are the Saugatuck-Douglas Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as Michigan Gas Utilities. Local entities such as Crane’s Pie Pantry, Root Cafe, Modales Winery and El Jaripeo are holding special sales, with proceeds going to this effort.
To this date, $28,730 has been raised towards this fundraising goal. The overall cost of the project is between $800,000 and $900,000, with a third of that covered by federal grants. Officials are hoping to have some of the elements of the project complete by late summer or early fall, with the entire park available in a year’s time.
