OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 14, 2025) – The search process for Ottawa County’s new governmental operational leader continues.
On Tuesday, county officials said that the retained consulting firm Double Haul Solutions has begun the pre-vetting phase of 30 qualified candidates for the full-time Administrator position. A total of 39 applicants had submitted their intentions by the May 5th deadline, and while no names were disclosed, the hopefuls included city managers, department directors, senior consultants, and executives from nationally-recognized institutions.
“We’ve seen strong interest from applicants who are deeply committed to public service. As we move into the pre-vetting phase, our focus shifts to identifying candidates who reflect Ottawa County’s values and priorities; individuals who can navigate complexity, listen with intention, and lead the organization forward with steadiness and care.” – Mitch Foster, Recruitment Lead with Double Haul Solutions
According to the county’s timeline, a closed door meeting is slated for May 27 to choose the finalists, with visits and public presentations set for June 4 and 5. The Board of Commissioners hope to offer the position and begin contract talks in mid-June, with a target of having a person in place by late July or early August.
“We are encouraged by the level of interest in the position and look forward to the next phase of the process. Our focus remains on selecting a leader who can provide stability, strengthen collaboration, and support the long-term needs of the organization and community.” – John Teeples, Ottawa County Board of Commissioners Chairman
Ottawa County hasn’t had a full-time administrator since John Gibbs was relieved of his duties last February 29. Former sheriff Gary Rosema is serving as the interim administrator, and he has already expressed his intentions to not seek the position permanently.
