JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 13, 2025) – The Patmos Library in Jamestown is no closer to reopening after a board of trustees meeting on Monday night.
Five of the eight staff members resigned last week over conflicts between themselves and board members that the staffers felt limited their ability to do their jobs. The library off of Riley Street has been closed since last Friday, and the board has named head librarian Debby Helmkamp as interim director while job postings for seasonal openings are planned by the end of the week. No timetable for when the library would reopen has been established.
The Padmos Library has had its share of controversy over having content with LGBTQ+ themes, an issue that led to two voter rejections of operational millage renewal proposals before it eventually passed in 2023.
