Eight Hope College women’s track and field team members have claimed All-MIAA accolades for the 2025 outdoor season, including junior Sara Schermerhorn, who was selected the MIAA’s Women’s Outdoor Most Valuable Track Athlete.
Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) is joined on the All-MIAA First Team by seven teammates: seniors Amanda Timonen (Palatine, Illinois / William Fremd) and Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School); juniors Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy), Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South), Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), and Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline),; and freshman Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic).
This season also marked the debut of the All-MIAA Second Team honors for track and field. First Team recognition is awarded to event winners, while Second Team honors are given to event runners-up.
Schermerhorn completed a season sweep of MVP accolades, receiving the honor in February during the indoor season and becoming the second in program history to accomplish the feat. Ana Tucker claimed indoor and outdoor track honors in 2023.
It is also the 11th time the Flying Dutch have celebrated an MIAA Outdoor MVP in either track or field.
Schermerhorn, an exercise science major, raced away with MIAA titles in the 200- and 400-meter runs and anchored the league-champion 4×100 and 4×400 relays. The 4×100 relay set an MIAA meet record.
Durow, an elementary education major, earned the MIAA championship in the 800-meter run.
Timonen, a special education major, repeated as an All-MIAA First Team selection after winning the MIAA javelin title for the second consecutive season.
Schmidt, a business major; Leahy, an exercise science and psychology major; and Fisher all earned All-MIAA First Team honors as members of the league-champion and record-setting 4×100 relay.
Leahy, Zimmerman, a political science and philosophy major; and Cozzens, an art studio major; all claimed All-MIAA First Team honors as members of the league-champion 4×400 relay.
