WALKER, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 10, 2025) – A man from Holland lost his life, and four others were injured, in a fiery early Saturday morning crash just east of the Ottawa/Kent county line.
According to the Walker Police Department, first responders were dispatched to the area of Butterworth Drive and Hall Street around 4 AM, on a report of a crashed vehicle which had burst into flames, and that it may have struck a house. While they were headed to the scene, they were advised that one person was trapped inside of the vehicle.
Augmented by crews from the Grandville and the Wright-Tallmadge fire departments, the first responders did find a fully-engulfed vehicle ablaze, along with a vacant house. The person that was trapped inside of the vehicle was unable to be saved, while the other four men, were able to escape the situation, and were taken to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The occupants ranged in age from 19 to 41 years old.
No names were disclosed as Walker police believe speed and impaired driving were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
