Five from Hope College earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors: juniors Julia Brown, Caroline Curnutt from women’s lacrosse, junior Sara Schermerhorn from women’s track and freshman Kaitlyn Stievater from women’s tennis.
Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) is the MIAA Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and third time in her career.
The junior attacker dominated in the 2025 MIAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, leading the Flying Dutch to the championship title. In the final matchup versus Trine, Brown tied the conference tournament single-game record with 11 points.
Over the last two games, Brown totaled 12 goals, seven assists, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. The sociology major (criminal justice with psychology) heads into the NCAA Tournament as the league leader with 69 goals and is in the top three with 87 points.
Curnutt (Fishers, Indiana / Heritage Christian) is the MIAA Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
The junior defender assisted the Flying Dutch to the 2025 MIAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament title, helping them allow only nine goals over two games.
Curnutt collected 14 draw controls, caused five turnovers and tallied three ground balls during the MIAA Tournament. The elementary education major is currently in the conference’s top five with 92 draw controls.
Randall (Lansing, Michigan / DeWitt) is the MIAA Women’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career.
The junior midfielder led the Flying Dutch last week with nine draw controls against Adrian and eight against Trine.
Randall also totaled six goals, two assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers throughout the tournament. The elementary education major is second in the conference with 108 draw controls.
Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) is the MIAA Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the sixth time in her career.
The junior sprinter delivered dominating performances at the 2025 MIAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, winning four running events. Schermerhorn completed the 200m dash in 24.28, which is currently ranked 14th in the country. The time of 55.41 in the 400 dash is ranked fifth in the nation.
The exercise science major also anchored both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. The 4×100 relay that clocked in at 47.18 is an MIAA record and currently ranks the quartet 20th in Division III, while Hope’s performance of 3:53.96 sits 23rd in the nation.
Stievater (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) is the MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
The freshman helped the Flying Dutch to the 2025 MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship title with 4-1 team victories against both Calvin in the semifinals and Kalamazoo in the championship.
At No. 3 doubles, Stievater partnered with Phoebe Walker for a 6-4 win against Knights’ Tessa Holman and Rachel Grissom. The duo earned a 6-3 win against Kalamazoo’s Rebecca Elias and Peja Liles.
Stievater went on to clinch her No. 6 singles match 6-1, 6-4 against Kalamazoo’s Soussana Kimbouris.
