OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 3, 2025) – Two persons were injured in a two-vehicle crash in West Olive on Saturday evening.
No names were disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke following the incident around 5:45 PM at the intersection of Van Buren Street and 104th Avenue. That was where a southbound electric-powered sedan apparently made a mistaken turn, attempted to correct through a U-turn, went back into the intersection, and was hit by a northbound pickup truck trying to avoid a collision. The force of the crash caused the pickup to roll over, and both vehicles went through a ditch before coming to rest in a nearby field.
A 15-year-old Jenison girl driving the sedan was found unconscious and had to be extricated by rescue workers. She was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids in serious condition. A 26-year-old Zeeland man driving the pickup truck was not hurt, and neither was a 23-year-old West Olive man who was a passenger, but another passenger, a 25-year-old West Olive woman, did sustain minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
