HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 3, 2025) – While the Tulip Time Festival will attract the most attention around Holland this weekend, an eventful Sunday lies ahead at Hope College.
Weather permitting, about 730 graduating seniors will participate in the 2 PM Commencement Exercise at Ray & Sue Smith Stadium. Dr. Lauren Hearit, assistant professor of management, will be the featured speaker, while an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree will be conferred to emeritus education professor John Yelding.
One of the highlights of the ceremony is the naming of the Hope Outstanding Professor Educator, as voted on by the graduates, according to Hope College spokesman Greg Olgers.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the stadium, but if it is forced to go indoors to DeVos Fieldhouse due to inclement weather, only ticket holders will be allowed in.
Earlier on Sunday, two Baccalaureate ceremonies will be held in Dimnent Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Nathan Hart, the chapel’s dean, as the featured preacher.
