OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 1, 2025) – Wednesday was National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day.
The annual observation raises awareness about the thousands of pets in shelters across the country waiting for their forever homes. It’s a problem that won’t go away anytime soon, according to Megan Winters, director of shelter operations with Harbor Humane Society in West Olive.
The Harbor Humane Society, as well as South Haven’s Al-Van Humane Society, are participating in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s annual “Empty the Shelters” national adoption event, beginning on Thursday and running through May 15th, with the Grand Rapids-based nonprofit sponsoring reduced adoption fees.
