HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 30, 2025) – One of the most decorated seniors at Holland High School will get yet another honor on Wednesday.
Representatives from C-SPAN and local cable provider Comcast will be on hand for a ceremony to recognize Karinna Martinez for a national honorary mention entry in C-SPAN’s “StudentCam” annual video documentary competition. Her work, “The Road to the American Dream: Worthiness and Representation in Education,” focused on her response to this year’s competition theme of “Your Message to the President: What issue is more important to you or your community?” Over 1,700 entries from nearly 3,500 students in 42 states and in the District of Columbia were considered.
This honor comes on top of Martinez winning the Social Justice Youth Award in January from the City of Holland’s Human Relations Commission. She chairs the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area’s Youth Advisory Committee; participated in the Michigan Future Educator Program and the Holland Youth Advisory Council, and is a head lifeguard at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Jason Craner, Director of Marketing and Communication with Holland Public Schools, wasn’t surprised by this latest accolade for Martinez.
Teacher Jeff Kordich will also be honored in this ceremony. Martinez said in her LinkedIn profile that she intends to enroll at Hope College this fall as a special education major.
