GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 25, 2025) – Van Andel Arena will be a busy place the next two days, but the Griffins, Rise, and Gold will be nowhere to be seen, and the only music heard will probably be Pomp and Circumstance.
The downtown Grand Rapids venue will host three separate Grand Valley State University graduation ceremonies, beginning on Friday evening at 7 PM, when sheepskins will be handed out to those from four of the Lakers’ eight colleges. Former Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss will deliver the commencement address, and should receive a honorary doctorate degree.
On Saturday, diplomas with the other four GVSU colleges will be distributed in separate ceremonies. School President Philomena Mantella will handle the commencement address for those proceedings. A total of over 3,200 students are slated to graduate from the Allendale-based institution of higher education.
