Stevens Enters US Senate Race; Huizenga Considering

On Tuesday, suburban Detroit Congresswoman Haley Stevens launched her bid for the Democratic US Senate nomination in 2026, focusing on the auto industry and against the Trump Tariffs.

She’s the third Democrat to enter the race to take over for a retiring Gary Peters. The seat will be a major focus across the country as the Republican party aims to grow its majority, as former GOP congressman Mike Rogers has already announced his candidacy, and current House Representative Bill Huizenga of Holland admitted he’s thinking about it too.

Michigan’s US Senate seats have been solidly Democratic since Debbie Stabenow upended GOP incumbent Spencer Abraham in 2000.
