UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 23, 2025) – The filing deadline passed on Tuesday for candidates seeking office in municipal elections across Michigan this fall.
There will be three contested Council races in the City of Holland. Mayor Nathan Bocks will be challenged for a fourth two-year term by Brian Everitt, who staged a write-in campaign for that office two years ago. At-Large Councilman Quincy Byrd will be challenged by Abby Klomparens, who lost to State House Rep Nancy DeBoer last fall, and Third Ward Council Member Belinda Sol will be challenged by Tim Marroquin, a current Holland Board of Education member who also ran for that seat eight years ago. First Ward Councilman Tim Vreeman and Fifth Ward Councilman Scott Corbin are running unopposed.
In Zeeland, where Mayor Kevin Klynstra is retiring after 30 years on council, current Councilman Richard Van Dorp is the only listed candidate to replace him. Councilman Jim Broersma is also retiring from that governing panel, so incumbent Glenn Kass is facing seven challengers for three council seats – Amy Langeland, Daniel Klompmaker, Rebecca Perkins, Ericka Humbert, Kylee DeBoer, Andrew Bult, and Hillary McAlpine. That number may lead to an August 5th Primary Election to cut that number down ahead of the November 4th General Election.

A listing of candidates for Fennville and Saugatuck city council races was not immediately available from the Allegan County Clerk’s office.
