ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 18, 2025) – An interim for the interim has been named to oversee Zeeland Public Schools.
On Friday, the district announced that Dr. Scott Korpak has agreed to come out of retirement to serve as interim superintendent, effective on May 5th. He had been the chief of Northview Public Schools for eight years, beginning in 2015, but three years into his tenure, he wanted to step down due to health reasons. That district was able to adjust his schedule to accommodate the situation at that time, but he retired for good in 2023. Korpak also had a two-year stint as Hamilton’s superintendent from 2008-10., and spent time as a teacher and administrator with Forest Hills schools.
He replaces Matt Stolz, who had been Zeeland’s interim superintendent since Dr. Brandi-Lyn Mendham went on a medical leave last October. On April 4th, a day after the district announced a search firm was retained to help in the search for a new operational leader, indicating that Mendham would not be returning to the post, West Ottawa Schools announced that Stolz would become that district’s Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Wellness, effective on April 28th.
As part of the search for a permanent leader, Zeeland Public Schools will seek public input, beginning with an online survey on its website, starting on Monday. No timeline for when such a leader will be named has been established.
