HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 16, 2025) – A new study shows Parkinson’s disease may soon be more concerning than Alzheimer’s.
In a report published last month in the journal The BMJ, cases of Parkinson’s disease are estimated to rise 30 percent by 2050 in North America and will double globally. Symptoms of Parkinson’s mostly affect movement, but can range from mental health effects to pain and tiredness. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease and scientist are working to determine what triggers the devastating illness.
April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Holland-based senior center Evergreen Commons, which has been in the forefront of addressing those afflicted with this disease and the caregivers who support them, is staging an awareness event on Thursday, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, in the center’s auditorium (480 State St.).
Mark DeWitt is Evergreen Commons’ Chief Advancement Officer.
