Laurie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of God whose life was guided by her commitment to Jesus Christ and her desire to serve God’s purposes in the world. This conviction shaped her work, her relationships, and how she spent her time.
Laurie was an early leader in the pro-life movement, advocating for the protection of human life at every stage. She was also involved in Christian publishing, working as an editor for journals focused on the authority of Scripture and preservation of the historic Reformed faith. Her home was a place where people of all racial and cultural backgrounds felt appreciated, cared for, and encouraged.
Music was another important part of Laurie’s life. She played both the piano and organ for church services and special occasions, and she taught lessons. One of her favorite and most memorable activities was playing the “Hallelujah Chorus” every Christmas.
Laurie loved to travel and took trips to South America, Europe, Africa, South Korea, and across the United States and Canada. She organized family vacations to all regions of the country, with five kids, a tent trailer, cook stove, plenty of sports equipment, and plenty of special treats.
