OTSEGO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2025) โ What Otsego Director of Police and Fire Brad Misner is calling a โdramatic rescueโ occurred early on Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 12 Midnight, crews arrived on the scene at a residence off of Grant Street near West Allegan Street (M-89). The blaze quickly spread through the upstairs living area of the two-story home, with thick smoke bellowing from an upstairs window.
An unnamed 49-year-old woman was trapped, and by using a ladder from the unattached garage of the residence, a firefighter reached out from the roof of the garage and attempted to pull the woman from the window. However, she was unable to hold on to the roof and fell to the ground, where other first responders quickly pulled her to safety and administered first aid before she was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly with no other injuries reported, as smoke detectors inside of the house did awaken the other residents of the dwelling, giving them time to escape safely. A cause of the blaze, as well as a dollar estimate of damage caused by the incident, was not immediately determined.
