COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2025) โ Concerns about national security are apparently behind efforts to crack down on student visas.
International students at Grand Valley State and Michigan State universities have had their travel visas revoked by the U.S. Department of State. Two GVSU students have been impacted, while MSU has not said how many Spartans have been impacted. Central Michigan and the University of Michigan have also had student visas revoked by the state department.
Perhaps this stems from last Octoberโs charging of five Chinese nationals of espionage who were caught in the dark in August of 2023 near a remote military site. State House Representative Luke Meerman.
Audio PlayerThe incident was near Camp Grayling, not Fort Custer, and the five persons have apparently fled the country since the incident.
Last month, Meerman introduced legislation in the state House that would prohibit foreign entities of concern, as noted by the US State Department and the US Department of Homeland Security, from acquiring agricultural land or property within 20 miles of critical infrastructure in Michigan.
