HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 30, 2025) โ Quick and efficient work by Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Operations units, as well as having a fire prevention system in place, addressed an overnight fire on Sunday which kept damage to a minimum, and led to no injuries reported.
A fire alarm went off at 3:24 AM inside of the operations of ATC Drivetrain, off of Waverly Road south of East 32nd Street. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke inside, caused by flames from palletized materials. In conjunction with the triggering of an automatic fire protection system when the blaze broke out, firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the flames.
After that, a number of crates containing lithium ion battery packs that did catch fire were moved outside in order for them to continue burning in a controlled manner. It took a while for crews to ventilate the smoke out of the building due to the large size of the structure.
A cause of the blaze, as well as a dollar estimate of damage caused by the incident, were not immediately determined. Fire Operations Captain Chris Tinney remarked that, โAs a result of fully functioning automatic fire protection, and the quick actions of the firefighters to contain fire spread with handlines, (ATC) will be able to reoccupy the building and resume operations soon.โ
