Larry Duane Bergsma, age 78, of Standale, Michigan, passed away on March 19, 2025, in Holland, Michigan.
Larry was born in Grand Rapids to Norman and Myrtle Bergsma on March 10, 1947. He was a graduate of Kenowa Hills High School and attended Grand Valley State University. He worked as a Route Salesman for many years and retired in 2008. Larry was a proud Army Veteran, who served in Vietnam. He was a member of Standale Reformed Church for over 50 years. Larry enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing as well as spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildrenโs sporting events and activities.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Sharon of 54 years. He is also survived by his sons Shawn (Stephanie) and Matt (Anne) as well as grandchildren Elliot, Olivia, Hunter, Archer, Fischer. He is also survived by his siblings Jan Oakes, Dennis Bergsma. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jack Scholten, niece Mari George (Jeff) and children Leah, Megan and Grant, nephew Todd Scholten (Tammy) and children Zachary (Grace), Holly (Gabe), Noelle, nephew Chip Scholten (Wendi) and children Harlee, and Jaxton, niece Mindi Kiliszewski (Eric ) and children Marisa and Mikayla, niece Dani Duncan (Jeff) and Lindsey, niece Amanda Jansen (Ben) and children Ben, Cammy, Ellory and Edison, nephew Jake Oakes (Chrissy ) and children Emmalyn and Caroline; along with many special cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Norm and Myrt Bergsma, his in-laws Irving and Joan Korten, brother-in-law Rick Oakes and sister-in-law Sandi Scholten.
A visitation and brief celebration of life will be held at Standale Reformed Church (202 Cummings Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534) on Sunday March 30, 2025. Visitation will be from 2pm-4:30pm, with a brief service and Honor Guard presentation beginning at 4:30pm. Pastor Kyle Lake will be officiating, and a private burial will be held at a later time.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the VA Clinic of Wyoming and to MediLodge of Holland for their wonderful care and support.
