UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 23, 2025) โ Some matters of importance will be before a couple of municipal governing bodies on Monday.
The board of the Holland Board of Public Works has a special late afternoon meeting set to recommend extending the current labor agreement with Local 610 of the Utility Workers Union of America, which a majority of the municipal utilityโs workers belong to. The current contract expires next Monday, and a tentative agreement on a new deal has already been reached, but the union is asking for a 30-day extension in order for the rank-and-file to review and vote on the pact.
The BPW Board will also review proposed Fiscal 2026 updates on electric Terms of Service for large-scale customers, and go into a closed session with legal counsel on a matter, with โanticipated action to follow,โ according to the meeting agenda.
During the biweekly evening business meeting of the Saugatuck City Council, the panel should be voting on changes to the cityโs ordinances involving Short-Term Rental licensing. One would provide a mechanism to process late applications, require annual proof of corporate entity or trust ownership, allow limited ownership transfers, and allow removing or reallocating ownership interests, but prohibit adding individuals or entities. Another would establish a $525 penalty fee for applications submitted six days or beyond the deadline for filing, which is double the normal application fee.
The Saugatuck council will also vote on street end and dock license rates and agreements for the 2025 season, as well as on applying for a $150,000 state DNR Passport Grant to help fund improvements to the courts at Village Square Park. An anonymous donor has already pledged $100,000 for the project, which has an estimated price tag of around $300,000.
The 4 PM Holland BPW board meeting is at the utilityโs offices (625 Hastings Ave.), while the 6:30 PM Saugatuck City Council business session is in the second-floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.).
