After 94 & a half “well-lived” years, she left this world on Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2025.
“Harriet Jane” was born on the summer solstice of June 21st, 1930, to Harry and Jeanette (Walters) Busscher. She held cherished memories of her formative years on her family’s Zeeland farm, on 96th Ave., with her 7 siblings. In 1948, she married “her Man”, the late Adrian Veele, Jr. They shared nearly 72 years of marriage. Proudly, they raised their 5 beloved children in the Zeeland and Holland area. As a current member of Calvary Holland Church for over 40 years, she continued to practice a life of faith and fellowship.
Her legacy of love and laughter continues with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Werner, and sons, Duane Veele (Pat Gemmen) and Steve Veele (Lisa Garcia). Her spirited soul will live on among her cherished 15 grand-children, 28+ great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by sons-in-law, Ron Schreur and Kelly Wagner. She adored the large family, with her surviving in-laws, Wilma Busscher, Lillian Busscher, Rose Busscher, Byron VanTil, and Marlene Veele, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Even after a childhood infliction of scarlet fever, she would exhibit this strong will to survive. She carried her family through their many losses of love in life. She was preceded in death by her parents and all 7 siblings. Her dear brothers were Jay, Art, Ken, Don and Virgil Busscher. Her loving sisters were Ruth Staat and Marcia VanTil. In 2020, she lost her husband, Adrian Veele, Jr. She bore the strength to bury 2 of her daughters, Diane (2016) and Sharon (2023). She grieved for the losses of son-in-law, Jack Werner, and her great-granddaughter, Madison Veele.
A memorial service for Harriet Veele will be held Saturday, March 22nd at 11 am, at Lakeshore Memorial, 11939 James St., Holland. Visitation will begin at 10 am.
