Kenneth Dale Berens, age 77, of Hamilton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2025.
Ken was born August 9, 1947, in Grand Rapids, MI to John and Fannie (Timmer) Berens.
Ken is survived by his children: Connie (Bryan) Immink of Dorr, MI, Mike (Kammi) Berens of Troy, MI, and Vicki Berens of Hamilton; grandchildren: Gracie Immink, Grant (Tsinat) Immink, Abbey (Nate) Martin, Gabe Steffey, Bella Beisel (Will Binder), Olivia Beisel; great grandchildren: Klayton Martin, Sawyer Martin, Zadok Immink; chosen daughter: Deb Fortney; brother: Duane (Marlene) Berens. Brother-in-laws: Wayne (Jane) Lampen, Darwin (Linda) Lampen; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Verna Mae (Lampen) Berens who passed away December 7, 2024. Also, sister-in-laws: Joyce (Floyd) Boerman, and Faith (Myron) Hoffman.
Ken first lived in Grandville, MI and moved to Hamilton, MI as a toddler. He was a member of Hamilton Reformed Church and transferred to Hamilton CRC after marriage.Ken graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965 after receiving most of his schooling at River Road School, a one room schoolhouse next door to his childhood home.
He proudly served in the Army National Guard. He was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his career with a majority of those years at Herman Miller. Later he drove doubles with Verna Mae and also sold hunting blinds. Ken and Verna Mae owned Dutch Treat Restaurant in Hamilton 1985-1999. Ken loved traveling the world to hunt and fish with Verna Mae. They both served with Lakeshore Quest Ministries and had great love for both the special need youth hunters and the Purple Heart veteran hunters they sponsored to experience a hunt of a lifetime at Two Hats Ranch.
Ken will be remembered well for his sense of humor and great love of adventure with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by everyone who loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Hamilton CRC, 3596 47th Street, Hamilton, MI 49419. Reverend Ken Kleinheksel will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to a brief committal service in Riverside – Hamilton Cemetery immediately following the service. A light lunch at the church will be prepared after the graveside.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Friday, March 21, 2025, at Hamilton CRC. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeshore Quest Ministries, 3138 48th Street, Hamilton, MI 49419 or Hospice of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd., Holland, MI 49423.
