Mitchell Lee Johnson was born on July 11, 1962, and went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2025.
He was born in Holland, Michigan, to Herbert and Florence Johnson. Mitchell attended Holland Public Schools and later worked as a semi-truck driver and diesel mechanic. He spent most of his career at Rollins Trucking, where he worked on their fleet of semi-trucks. Mitchell came from, and created, a large family. To know Mitchell was to be a part of his family. He was a helpful, giving man who loved making people laugh.
Music was one of his greatest passions—any instrument sounded amazing when he played it! He also enjoyed fishing, helping his children with projects, and simply being around his loved ones. Mitchell always made it a point to spread happiness wherever he went. He was especially proud of the strong children he raised and was smitten by his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Florence Johnson; siblings Elizabeth Starrett, Herb Johnson, and James Johnson; mother-in-law Genevieve Jackson; and nephews Daniel Woudwyk and Carl Reed, and niece Jennifer Starrett. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Tammie Johnson; children Mitchell Johnson II, Anna Johnson, Marissa Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Matthew Johnson, and Anthony Johnson; grandchildren Cameron Johnson, Cornelius Johnson, Nicholas and Charlotte Granzotto; siblings Jeanette Burchfield, John Johnson, Ruth and Fred Cronberg, Viola and Freddy Garza, Joy and Jim Kievit, Mary and John VanKampen, Ken Woudwyk, Janie and Mike Avery, and Jim Tharp; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
