LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 10, 2025) – Two Lakeshore school districts are getting a little help from Lansing to help those without a high school diploma get started in career training programs.
Zeeland Public Schools is receiving $31,500, while Allegan Public Schools is garnering $41,000. They are two of 15 districts, schools and agencies sharing in $3 million from the state Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Michigan Adult Education 23+ High School Diploma Program. A requirement for receiving these funds is access for participating adults 23 years of age and older to a “robust” support framework, including technological, social and academic support, through dropout reengagement services, academic intake assessments, integrated learning plans, remediation coursework, employability skills development, and career training.
The program has had over 1,800 adults receive high school diplomas, but state officials believe that over 600,000 adults don’t have such educational certification. A link to more information on available adult education services in Michigan is here.
