
The 12th-ranked and MIAA champion Hope College women’s swimming and diving team will compete in 13 events with a group of seven swimmers at the NCAA Division III Championships later this month in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Flying Dutch will race in eight individual events and all five relays during the four-day national championships, which run Wednesday-Saturday, March 19-22, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Swimmers can compete in as many as seven events.
Junior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) can swim the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle and four of the five qualifying relays: 200 medley, 200 medley, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle..
The chemical engineering major is seeded third in the 100 freestyle at 49.71 seconds, seventh in the 200 freestyle at 1:49.70 and 10th in the 50 freestyle at 23.16 seconds. This is Wasiniak’s third trip to nationals.
Senior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) can race in the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley and all five relays.
The elementary education major is seeded fifth in the 200 IM at 2:01.59, sixth in the 100 freestyle at 50.14 and 10th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.48.
An eight-time All-American, Gidley has been the national runner-up in the 200 IM each of the past two seasons. Gidley is making a third trip to nationals.
Senior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) can compete in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 400 IM, and the 200 medley, 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays.
The exercise science major is seeded second in the 200 backstroke at 1:58.29, 13th in the 100 backstroke at 55.25 and 17th in the 400 IM at 4:25.66. Kraus, an eight-time All-American, is racing at nationals for the fourth time in her career.
Senior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) can swim in the 100 breaststroke and four relays: 200 freestyle, 200 medley, 400 freestyle and 400 medley.
The business and psychology major is seeded 17th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.98. Ryle is competing at nationals for the second time.
Junior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) can race in the 100 freestyle and the three freestyle relays.
The psychology major is seeded 13th in the 100 freestyle at 50.72. Turner is swimming at nationals for the third time.
Junior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) can compete in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM.
The exercise science major is seeded 16th in the 200 IM at 2:03.91 and 22nd in the 200 backstroke. Hermann, a two-time All-American, is swimming at nationals for the third time.
Freshman Emme D’Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) can race in the 800 freestyle relay.
All five of Hope’s relay seed times rank in the Top 10 nationally.
The Flying Dutch are second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:31.75.
In the 200 medley relay, Hope sits fourth at 1:41.02.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the Flying Dutch rank sixth at 3:32.41.
In the 400 medley relay, Hope is seventh at 3:43.33.
In the 800 freestyle relay, the Flying Dutch sit ninth at 7:28.02.
