WRIGHT TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 3, 2025) – A Saturday evening shooting east of Coopersville led to the death of an 18-year-old man and the arrest of another 18-year-old.
Deputies were contacted by Grand Rapids Police after officers were called to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital when a teen was admitted with a gunshot wound, stemming from an incident around 7 PM in the area of Arthur Street and 40th Avenue.
The victim, Hector Enriquez-Rangel, expired from his wounds, while the suspect was arrested at the hospital and taken to the Ottawa County Jail. An autopsy conducted on Monday by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Enriquez-Rangel died of a gunshot wound.
The suspect, Alan Lopez of Marne, was arraigned on manslaughter, concealed weapon and felony firearm charges later in the day. During the hearing, detectives disclosed that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances, and the shooting occurred inside of a moving pick up truck between 6:30 and 6:45 PM. Judge Judy Mulder in the 58th District Court at Hudsonville set bond at $100,000, and Lopez remains behind bars.

I went to school with him. I never talked to him but he was a really good kid when in school. I didn’t know him out of school. From what he has done when he’s around that i’ve seen, he was a really sweet person. I hope he gets his justice that he deserves. No one deserves this. I am giving his parents my condolences as I wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemy.
