Born January 31,1942 in Reed City, MI, she was the first-born of 5 children of Floyd “Freeman” and Gladys “Toots” (Ford) DeVoe. She first attended Holdenville School, a one room schoolhouse, later graduating from Reed City High School in 1960.On August 20,1961 she married Robert Hale, whom she met while working at Robinson’s Furniture in Big Rapids. Together they had 5 children and raised them in Reed City. Elila was passionate about sewing starting at the young age of 15 until dementia robbed her of that joy. She often did alterations and sewing out of her home where she made a daughter’s wedding dress, did some reupholstering and once a tuxedo for a dog who would be standing up with “his daddy” at his wedding. In 2008 she moved to the Holland area where she was a member of Central Wesleyan Church.
Elila was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and 2 granddaughters.
She is survived by her children Tracy of Ypsilanti, Lorri of Gladstone, Chris of Holland, Sandi (Andy) of Grand Haven, Robert Jr. of Grand Rapids, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
As per her request, cremation has taken place and services will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025 at 11:00 am at Central Wesleyan Church in Holland.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Central Wesleyan Church Benevolence Fund.
