Two from Hope College have been chosen as the MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior Sara Kraus in women’s swimming and junior Liam Danitz in men’s track.
This is the first MIAA weekly honor this season for Kraus and her eighth overall. This is the second accolade of the season and all-time for Danitz.
Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) contributed significantly to the 12th-ranked Flying Dutch’s fifth consecutive MIAA championship last week at Calvin University.
The exercise science major started the four-day meet as the second leg of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay (7:28.02).
Kraus followed as the lead-off in the record-breaking 400 medley relay that clocked in at 3:44.43 and the record-setting 200 medley relay (1:41.02).
Individually, Kraus won the 400 IM (4:25.66), the 100 back (55.25), and the 200 back (1:58.29).
Kraus, who was voted as the MIAA’s Most Valuable Women’s Swimmer, became the second woman in MIAA history to win four 100- and 200-yard backstroke titles.
Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) is the MIAA Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and his career.
The exercise science major clocked first-place times in the 60- and 200-meter runs at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up on Friday.
Danitz clocked a school-record time of 21.89 seconds in the 200 that’s ranked 11th in NCAA Division III this season.
In the 60 meters, Danitz crossed the finish line in 6.97 seconds during the finals and 6.96 during prelims.
