HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 21, 2025) – An investigation is underway following the arrest of a 38-year-old woman and the death of a 17-year-old boy at a Holland apartment unit during the overnight hours of Friday morning.
Public Safety Police Services officers were dispatched to a unit in the Bay Pointe complex off of East 16th Street around 4:15 AM on a report of a “domestic incident.” They were met by the woman wielding a knife, and after several efforts to verbally have her drop the weapon, a Taser was deployed, and the woman was taken into custody.
Once inside of the unit, officers encountered the teen, who was dead at the scene, and “due to the suspicious nature of the incident,” according to Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, detectives were called in to the matter. It was determined that the teen was the son of the woman who was apprehended.
An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death, but the case is now being considered a homicide, and the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney has authorized an Open Murder warrant against the woman. Buursma added that the names of the accused and of the victim will be disclosed once an arraignment in 58th District Court is held.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Holland Department of Public Safety (616-355-1150) or Ottawa County Silent Observer.
