WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 17, 2025) – John Gibbs has landed on his feet, professionally.
The one-time Ottawa County Administrator from Byron Center, apparently unemployed since his dismissal last February 29th, is now listed as a principal deputy assistant secretary with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. It’s his second go-round in federal government, after serving as an assistant secretary for community planning and development with HUD during the first Trump administration.
Gibbs, who lost to Hillary Scholten in the 2022 US House election, was named county administrator on January 3, 2023, upon the installation of a new county board headed up by Joe Moss and his fellow Ottawa Impact-supported majority. However, Gibbs was sacked for cause 13 months later over a variety of issues, filed a lawsuit over the dismissal, and agreed to a $190,000 settlement with the county that was approved by the current board last month.
DOGE, where are you?
