Stephen Marc Schout, of Zeeland, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at age 48. Stephen was born in Kwangju, South Korea in 1976; when his parents’ missionary assignment ended, Stephen came to Zeeland, Michigan while still an infant. Stephen graduated from Zeeland High School in 1995. He lived with an uncontrolled seizure disorder his entire life, but now he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ—and his health limitations and challenges are over. Stephen’s family looks forward to seeing him again someday in heaven.
Stephen had a special zest for life, and some of his hobbies were coloring, jigsaw
puzzles, reading, watching dvds, participating in Special Education Ministries, and (most important) spending time with his family. Stephen possessed a pure, child-like faith; for his entire life he was faithful regarding weekly church attendance and daily Bible study and prayer. He was a member of Grace Fellowship OPC in Zeeland. Stephen really enjoyed his Wonderfully Made Sunday School Class.
Stephen is survived by his parents, Lloyd and Melva Schout; brothers, David Schout and Michael and Naomi Schout; nieces and nephews, Sadie Schout, Eli Schout, Lydia Schout, and Titus Schout (all of Zeeland), plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Mary Schout, and Raymond and Gertrude Morren.
The funeral service will be held at Grace Fellowship Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 435 W Main Avenue, Zeeland, MI, on Monday, February 17, at 11:00 AM, with a luncheon following. Stephen’s brother, Rev. Michael Schout, will officiate. Stephen’s funeral is being live streamed and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/live/CixOrJ4_Vy4?feature=shared. Visitation will be held at Yntema Funeral Home of Zeeland, on Sunday, February 16, from 2:00 until 4:30 in the afternoon. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery (original/settlers). Memorial contributions in Stephen’s memory may be given to Kenya Hope.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare professionals over the years who helped Stephen live with his seizure disorder, his loving church family at both Covenant PCA and Grace Fellowship OPC, and Jackie Yeomans for her care teaching and mentoring Stephen over the last 5 years.
