With profound gratitude and loving remembrance, we share the passing of Harriet Arlene Feenstra. Harriet, age 84, peacefully left us on Wednesday, February 5, at Resthaven Maplewood Cottages in Holland, MI, surrounded by her cherished family.
Born on September 26, 1940, in Leota County, Minnesota, Harriet was the beloved daughter of the late Johann and Nellie Gulker. She later moved to Allendale, Michigan, and attended Unity Christian High School.
Harriet met her devoted husband, Melvin, in the Zeeland area, sharing 58 wonderful years of marriage. She dedicated her life to family and friends, spreading love and joy wherever she went. Harriet enjoyed an active retirement in Florida before residing at Resthaven Maplewood Cottages.
Harriet’s life was a tapestry of love, joy, and generosity, woven with threads of family and friendship. Surrounded by her husband, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, she found her deepest happiness. Her nurturing spirit and boundless compassion made her a cherished figure in the lives she touched.
Known for her warm heart and talent for bringing smiles and comfort to others, Harriet had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease, leaving a lasting impression wherever she went. She embodied grace, peace, and altruism, brightening every room with her sassiness, twinkling eyes, and competitive nature.
Harriet was a beacon of love and support, always there when needed, often just showing up without being asked. She delighted in bringing people together, fostering connections, and even played a pivotal role in helping her brother find the love of his life. Harriet’s fun-loving, passionate, and artistic nature added beauty to the world. She cherished the titles “greatest Grandma and Auntie ever.”
Her presence brightened every place she visited, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will continue to inspire us all.

Harriet is survived by her brother Merlyn (Mert) Gulker, sister Sebeann Jeurink, brother and sister-in-law Virgil and Kathy Gulker, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Molly Feenstra, daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Thomas Banks, and three grandchildren: Noah Banks, Michael Feenstra, and Rachelle Banks. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will sadly miss her.
Harriet’s loving presence and remarkable spirit touched many lives, and she will always be remembered with deep affection and admiration. A private celebration of life will be held.
