HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 6, 2025) – It looks as if Holland’s signature event will surrender its claim as having Michigan’s longest parade route by distance.
Tulip Time Festival officials announced on Thursday that the route for the Quality Car Wash Volksparade, set for Saturday, May 10th, will be shortened. The start of the promenade remains the same, at the corner of Columbia Avenue and East 8th Street, but the floats, vehicles, Dutch Dancers and bands will end their travels at West 11th Street and VanRaalte Avenue, near Kollen Park, instead of going further south to the Holland High campus near West 24th Street.
It will mirror the route for the Gentex Kinderparade held two days earlier, and festival officials say that the change was done in conjunction with city leaders and the Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services unit to reduce the number of road closures needed, as well as improving safety for all involved.
The Volksparade may be reduced in length, but not in quality, as the popular Petoskey Steel Drum Band has already committed to attending again this spring.
